We believe that a Roberts education is an investment in your future. Because we have confidence in the transformative experience students have here, we offer many grants and scholarships to help them afford college. We want to make private college accessible and affordable for families.

Academic Scholarships

Academic scholarships are based on a combination of High School GPA and SAT/ACT scores at the time of admittance; only average qualifications are listed below. Recipients will be granted the single highest award for which they qualify and will be notified of their award with their acceptance packet along with their financial aid letter.

Award amounts listed are for freshmen students enrolling for the first time at Roberts Wesleyan University in fall 2023. Please refer to previous catalogs for scholarship/grant awarding information for enrollment that began prior to fall 2023.

Freshman Academic Scholarships

Three students will receive a full-tuition scholarship minus other Roberts, federal, and state grants and scholarships. Students must attend the Academic Scholarship Celebration to be eligible. This scholarship will be awarded based on an interview during the event, an essay, and high school academic performance. The three recipients of this scholarship will be notified within 3 weeks following the event.

The Trustee Scholarship awards $22,000 per year to recipients who are admitted as first-year students starting in Fall 2023 and represent character consistent with the goals of Roberts Wesleyan University. The scholarship is renewed annually, provided the student maintains at least a 2.0 cumulative grade point average.

The Presidential Scholarship awards $20,000 per year to recipients who are admitted as first-year students starting in Fall 2023 and represent character consistent with the goals of Roberts Wesleyan University. The scholarship is renewed annually, provided the student maintains at least a 2.0 cumulative grade point average.

The Dean’s Scholarship awards $18,000 per year to recipients who are admitted as first-year students starting in Fall 2023 and represent character consistent with the goals of Roberts Wesleyan University. The scholarship is renewed annually, provided the student maintains at least a 2.0 cumulative grade point average.

The Founder’s Scholarship awards $14,000 per year to recipients who are admitted as first-year students starting in Fall 2023 and represent character consistent with the goals of Roberts Wesleyan University. The scholarship is renewed annually, provided the student maintains at least a 2.0 cumulative grade point average.

The Roberts Opportunity Grant awards $10,000 per year to recipients who are admitted as first-time full-time freshman students starting in Fall 2023 and represent character consistent with the goals of Roberts Wesleyan University. The scholarship is renewed annually.

Freshman:

    • Awarded to students who do not qualify for any Academic Scholarships.

Transfer Academic Scholarships

Roberts Wesleyan University is transfer-friendly, offering a wide range of scholarships to incoming transfer students. Choose from many majors and programs and experience the personal attention that students have come to appreciate.

For those starting as a first-time transfer student in spring 2023 and beyond, the Dean’s Scholarship awards $18,000 per year to recipients whose character is consistent with the goals of Roberts Wesleyan University. Recipients must have a cumulative grade point average of higher than 3.6 at the most recent college attended full-time. The scholarship is renewed annually, provided the student maintains at least a 2.0 cumulative grade point average.

For those starting as a first-time transfer student in spring 2023 and beyond, the Director’s Scholarship awards $16,000 per year to recipients whose character is consistent with the goals of Roberts Wesleyan University. The scholarship is renewed annually, provided the student maintains at least a 2.0 cumulative grade point average. Recipients must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.3 to 3.59 at the most recent college attended full-time.

For those starting as a first-time transfer student in spring 2023 and beyond, the Founder's Scholarship awards $14,000 per year to recipients whose character is consistent with the goals of Roberts Wesleyan University. The scholarship is renewed annually, provided the student maintains at least a 2.0 cumulative grade point average. Recipients must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 to 3.29 at the most recent college attended full-time.

Phi Theta Kappa Honors Society members receive their earned academic merit scholarship plus an extra $2,000. This is stackable and renewable. Must meet following criteria:

Awards are made each year to talented students who show promise in art. 

Requirements:

  • Satisfactory academic records and unusual proficiency in art.
  • Art portfolio review with the art faculty.
  • Pursuing a degree within the Department of Visual Arts:
    • Art Education
    • Digital Media Art
    • Graphic Design
    • Printmaking
    • 3D (Ceramics & Sculptures)
    • 2D (Drawing, Painting, and Printmaking)
    • Photography
    • Studio Art

These awards are renewable based on satisfactory achievement and good standing within the college.

Awards are made each year to talented students who show promise in music ranging from $1,000 to $6,000.

There are 2 full-tuition scholarships awarded each year to the most skilled musicians who audition.

Scholarships are granted based on:

  • Performance level
  • Potential to succeed in the Music Department

These awards are renewable based on satisfactory academic and musical achievements along with good standing within the college.

Roberts Wesleyan College has joined forces with News 8 and Advantage Federal Credit Union to award a $10,000 Golden Apple Scholarships to one incoming undergraduate teacher education student. Detailed information can be found on the Golden Apple Scholarship application page.

Involvement based awards

These grants are provided out of the Roberts Fund for students with demonstrated financial need.

A grant of $1,000 is available upon application to students with financial need who are legally dependent children of parents employed in full-time Christian service.

Students whose mom or dad are alumni of Roberts Wesleyan University will receive a $1,000 scholarship each year.

Eligible students should mention in their application that their parents are graduates of the college. 

Young Life students can receive $4,000 over four years at Roberts Wesleyan University. Detailed information can be found on the Young Life Scholarship page.

All Black Scholar graduates will be awarded award an additional $1,000 each year. This award is only for incoming freshmen.

The Black Scholars program is offered through the Urban League of Rochester. The program identifies Black Scholars from school districts in Genesee, Livingston, Monroe, Ontario, Orleans, and Wayne counties. Eligible students should mention in their application that they are a Black Scholar recipient.

We will match 50% to 100% of scholarship assistance provided by an enrolling student's home church up to the level of $1,000.

The level of match will be determined by the Church Partnership Committee upon review of documented financial need and other resources awarded. Applications are available online and through the Office of Student Financial Services.

Pillar Awards

Pillar Grants are awarded to students based on the work, accomplishments, and characteristics demonstrated in their application for admission and essay.

Eligibility:

  • Demonstrate one or more of the characteristics of deep faith, character, leadership, and service:
    • Courageous Character,
    • Ready to Lead,
    • Flourishing Communities,
    • Anchored in Christ
  • Demonstrate financial need via the FAFSA
  • Be enrolled full-time (at least 12 hours)

New York Promise

Roberts New York Promise is an initiative to provide a Roberts Wesleyan University education tuition-free to high-achieving students in New York who may not otherwise have the resources to attend a private institution.  More details.


Micro-Scholarships

Roberts has partnered with SAGE to help make college more affordable for families. Through the SAGE Program, families can accrue points to guarantee institutional funding. Tuition Rewards Points are like frequent flyer miles - but for college tuition!

Examples of ways families can earn scholarship dollars are:
  • Saving or investing in a 529 plan (PA only)
  • Contributing to a 401K or 403B
  • Purchasing cash-value life insurance through a participating organization
  • Maintaining membership in affiliated fraternal organizations
  • Working with an affiliated financial professional (individual or organization) who provides asset management, qualified product sales, annual financial reviews, seminars or workshops
  • Having a college funding plan created by an affiliated organization or individual

Athletic Scholarships

As an NCAA Division II member, we offer scholarships to talented student-athletes. Coaches decide who receives a scholarship and what it will cover.

All incoming athletes must be registered with the NCAA eligibility center.
